It’s gotta be The World Is Yours. That’s a pillar of hip-hop. That song made a white kid from the suburbs believe in the power of raps and boom baps.

Ether – I had just moved to America, there was crazy buzz surrounding it. Never heard of Nas before and barely listened to hip-hop but he made me curious about him. I fell in love with him then and haven’t stopped.

My Favorite Song for Nas is Ether. It displayed his lyrical genius and he was the only cat at that time to smash Jay Z on a track. Jaz z is one of the greatest too. Nas to me expressed himself from the soul.

“It ain’t hard to tell” my alltime fav! Well almost all of Nas’ joints are my fav’s. I’ll pick that ONE for now tho.

  • Natalie Williams said:

My favorite Nas joint would have to be “One Mic”. The way the individual verses just “build up” slowly and then blow up at the end is just phenomenal!!!

January 2003. New York, New York. Downstairs at Nells Nightclub. “Made You Look” was on rotation and the crowd went BANANAS! The DJ played it three times in a row. That night, I became a fan for life. “You a slave to a page in my rhyme book.” Yes, I am!

Nas is as iconic as hip hop and to name a favorite is close to blasphemy! Lol! Anyway i have so many but the songs that top my list are “i gave you power”: that song is a genius narrative that embodies what the founders of hip hop intended believed our music should convey. But the one that still leaves me in awe is “rewind”!!! “rewind” is lyricism at its best. Nas took a story told it backwards and ripped it! Genius genius genius!! Nas is hip hop!!

  • Wahid Khoshravani said:

Nas has lots of favorite joints, but one that most people skip over is “What Goes Around” (Poison). One of the illest verses and hooks to date. wow!
